My career in broadcasting began in the fall of 1988, and literally on a whim one day. I happened to be driving by a small local radio station that had just reopened after sitting dark for almost a decade, and thought to myself, I would love to work as a disk jockey. So, right then and there, I pulled into the parking lot, and went inside to ask for a job. It was the first time I had ever set foot inside of any sort of broadcasting facility, so to say that I was inexperienced was beyond an understatement. Miraculously enough, however, I was hired on the spot. It just so happened that the station owners had been desperately searching for someone to do a night and weekend on-air shift, and could find no one with any experience or interest in this small market. They were so desperate, in fact, that they were willing to take me in and start me out from scratch.
It was a gamble that paid off for both me and the station owners. The impulse decision to jump out and become a radio DJ that day led me to discover a talent I never would have dreamed I’d have. I had always detested the sound of my voice. Anytime I heard myself on tape it made me cringe. But over the airwaves, it was rich and distinctive, and it got attention. I found I could entertain an audience as well. After a few weeks, when I’d go into the grocery store or the bank, friends and acquaintances would stop me and tell me they’d been hearing me on the air, and that I sounded amazing. They were impressed, and it felt wonderful.
That was almost 20 years ago, and my career in broadcasting has come a long way. Though I’ve never left this small market in which I live, I’ve worked at two other radio stations, and a local television station. I’ve done marketing, promotions, news, public service, video production, master control, and even a little bit of on-camera work. On the side, I did a few on-hold messaging jobs as well. While every aspect of broadcasting still fascinates me, it is being in front of the mic that I enjoy doing the most. It is what I’m good at, and feel most at home doing.

I have a pretty good range of variations. While my voice has a natural underlying bass that is helpful for a more serious and direct delivery, I can also go into a falsetto tone for a younger, more animated delivery. Sexy & Sultry? I can do that too. Accents I can do include a deep Southern, British, and Hispanic.
